Stichting Monumentenzorg Curacao

Project Background:

After attending the 2nd Caribbean Conference of National Trusts & Preservation Societies, representatives of the Curaçao Monument Foundation (Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao) and the Curaçao Monument Fund (Stichting Monumentenfonds Curaçao) decided to take on the responsibility of hosting the third edition in 2017 in Curaçao. This coincided with the 25th anniversary of the placement of Curaçao’s capital Willemstad on the UNESCO World Heritage list

The purpose of the conference was to gather professionals from around the Caribbean and beyond to share their findings and experiences with regards to the restoration and preservation of our Caribbean heritage. This resulted in an interactive three day conference, covering the following themes;

  • Willemstad World Heritage City;

  • Underwater Heritage & Archaeology;

  • Branding & Marketing of Heritage;

  • Financing Heritage Preservation, and

  • Adaptive Reuse of Built Heritage.

Kayena Consulting’s Role:

In preparation of the conference Kayena Consulting took on the logistical project management, which included;

  • Finalizing speaker details including assistance with flight & accommodation, collecting presentations and attending to general requests;

  • Coordinating all logistical details with the venue and other third party vendors;

  • Creating and maintaining the time scheduling of the event and coordinating this with the MC during the event. 

  • Handling registration of participants and attending to participant requests, managing the registration desk and sale of merchandise during the event;

  • Managing the conference website content & social media before, during and after the event.

  • Organizing the off-site events, including a social dinner event at a plantation house / gallery, a walking tour through historical Otrobanda, a walking tour and harbor tour through Punda & Scharloo and partial involvement in the organization of a plantation tour to the West end of the island.
